Community Wellness Program

Evidence shows that we cannot achieve health goals without support in neighborhoods, workplaces and schools.  By partnering with other organizations and encouraging community actions that support healthier kids, Project Fresh aims to mobilize community members to advocate and live healthier lifestyles.

The facts:

  • When compared to other neighborhoods, predominately black neighborhoods have the most limited access to supermarkets and healthy foods

  • Marketing of high calorie, low-nutrition foods and beverages is more prevalent in Black and Latino neighborhoods

  • Access to public parks, pools and green space is much lower in neighborhoods occupied by minorities and is linked to higher obesity and lower physical activity rates

Program Goals:

  1. Ensure existing policy initiatives are equitable across all neighborhoods

  2. Increase community members' awareness of healthy choices and neighborhood impact

  3. Improve community engagement and build sustainable programs
