Project Fresh provides nutritious, quality meals and snacks to children afterschool and during the summer.  This program assists low-income families by feeding children when school is not in session, which is likely the only time they eat.

The Facts:

  • 43% of children in the city of Memphis are impoverished

  • 25% of children live in food insecure households with little to no access to healthy foods

  • 100% of Memphis youth receive free breakfast and lunch

  • While there is 60-90% participation in school breakfast and lunch programs, less than 30% participate in after-school and summer feeding programs.

Program Goals:

  1. Increase consumption of healthy food

  2. Improve youth's perception of healthy food

  3. Reduce the incidence of childhood hunger
